IRON MOUNTAIN – Marie T. Cristan, 88, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 30, 2022, at Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood in St. Paul, Minnesota.
She was born on April 7, 1933 in Iron Mountain, daughter of Ubaldo and Maria Fiorucci and resided all her life in Iron Mountain. In 1950 she married her husband Oliver and they lived 69 years of loving marriage.
She was a loving mother who spent the majority of her time working outside the home supporting the family, caring for the family, cooking great Italian dishes and making sure the stocks of family food were always full with homemade ravioli, cappelletti, pâtés and preserves all the vegetables from the garden to name a few.
She was also a very accomplished seamstress and enjoyed knitting sweaters, hats, gloves, socks and scarves for dad and the grandkids. There were never too many patches on Dad’s or the boys’ jeans and she took great pride in making them look good.
She was still busy working full-time and raising three boys, but we remember seeing many clothes scavenged by neighbors and friends whom she happily cared for. Mary was a life member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Marie is survived by her sons, Louis (Kathy Frankini), Paul (Patti Skoglund) and Richard (Janet Rasmussen), who reside in St. Paul; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver, siblings; Leticia, Ralph, Joe and Gina.
At Marie’s request, there will be no visitation and the funeral will be private.
Memorials are preferred at Immaculate Conception Church, 500 E. Blaine St. Iron Mountain MI 49801 or charity of choice.
Special thanks to Ecumen Seasons in Maplewood, Ecumen Hospice and all the compassionate caregivers who cared for her during her time there.
