Lalaland, an Amsterdam-based fashion startup, announced the launch of its new product, the Genesis Meta Model Creator, at CES 2022.

The latest product helps fashion brands and retailers create a highly personalized and inclusive shopping experience by generating a virtual mannequin of different body types, sizes, hair types and skin tones closest to the preferences of the Buyer.

Why virtual mannequin?

According to the Dutch company, fashion brands and retailers hold several photo shoots every year to release a new collection.

These photoshoots are complex, time consuming, and expensive because they require a lot of human models, photographers, makeup artists, and hairdressers on the scene.

This is where Lalaland’s Genesis Meta Model Creator comes in.

In addition to creating a highly personalized experience, the company’s virtual mannequin platform takes only 15% of the cost of conventional photoshoots.

“There is a huge opportunity for fashion brands, retailers and digital designers to abandon their legacy practices and invest in new, game-changing AI-powered technology. With our virtual mannequins, we’re enabling brands and retailers to get to market faster than ever, increase average order values, and solve one of fashion’s biggest problem – returns. If there’s ever been a time to experiment with technology like this, it’s now, ”says Harold Smeeman, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Lalaland.ai.

Lalaland says its technology helps increase the first try pass rate and reduce the need to order multiple sizes through a personalized virtual fit experience online.

“Return rates will go down, reducing the number of clothes thrown away. It also means less shipments to the consumer and to the retailer, reducing carbon emissions from transportation, ”the company explains.

Lalaland: what to know

Founded by Michael Musandu and Ugnius Rimsa in 2019, Lalaland uses artificial intelligence (AI) to develop highly realistic digital photo models for e-commerce applications of clothing and fashion brands.

The Dutch company uses neural networks to generate images of artificial humans. Through its platform, the company offers brands a huge library of age, size and ethnicity models so that online shoppers can see themselves in the latest clothes as per their requirement.

To date, the company has raised $ 242K (approx. € 214K) in funding.

Past developments of Lalaland

Last year Lalaland was selected as one of six finalists for the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Frontier Challenge. The annual global program is about finding and supporting innovative startups that make the fashion landscape more inclusive.

In June 2021, Google selected Lalaland for its European “Google Fund for Startups Black Founders” with the aim of increasing diversity in the world of startups and tech.
