Free Prom Dresses in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – The Rockford chapter of “Becca’s Closet” has celebrated its grand reopening since being closed due to COVID-19 last year.

Thousands of beautiful dresses, shoes and accessories were made available on Saturday, just in time for the ball. It was a chance for everyone to have a blast, and a dream come true for some to find the perfect prom outfit.

Organizers said “Becca’s Closet,” 1829 N. Rockton Ave., aims to promote self-confidence and individual beauty.

“The girls really want to go and have this extravagant, gorgeous dress but can’t afford the money,” said Grace Ellsworth, a staff volunteer at Becca’s Closet.

Saturday was the first time the store had been open since being closed by COVID-19. Ellsworth said she started helping out after first hearing about the nonprofit when she was a freshman in high school.

It was eight years ago.

“We have thousands and thousands of dresses here, and the girls have so many options,” Ellsworth said. “We have so many different sizes, so many colors, so many lengths and the girls are loving it and having the time of their lives.”

Organizers said there were no limits to the styles or colors available.

“I didn’t think I was going to find so many dresses to try on. I think it’s really cool,” said Huntley Secondary School students Giulia Casiraghi, Aurora Vedovato and Laura Bartole. “Yeah, that’s really cool, I can’t wait for prom.” Yeah, I’m really excited. It’s also very exciting because we’re all from Italy, and in Italy we don’t have a prom, so that’s a first thing for us.

The girls were visiting “Becca’s Closet” for the first time and said the experience was better than they expected.

“I’m so excited because I finally found the right dress,” Bartole said. “I feel like it’s the right one, so I’m really happy. I’m ready for the ball.

Organizers said one of the main goals was for each girl to find her dream dress.

“So to be happy now, it’s really exciting to see the girls getting excited about something this year,” Ellsworth said.

Those old dresses in the back of their closet can send ’em to”Becca’s Closet.”
