ESPN and The Walt Disney Company announce the launch of Andscape, the renamed and reimagined expansion of The Undefeated
Andscape black-focused media platform for telling stories by and for the black community

February 28, 2022 – Andscape, a media platform dedicated to embracing and sharing the full range of Black culture and identity, launched today as a renamed and expanded version of The Undefeated . Andscape, part of the ESPN portfolio, will be a content creator for The Walt Disney Company, encompassing an editorial unit with a robust website, a book publishing arm, a film and television division and a music publishing group. – all with the shared mission to unite, entertain, inspire and connect audiences through a black lens.
Raina Kelley, Managing Editor of Andscape, commented, “Andscape, like The Undefeated before it, is a groundbreaking black brand, a 24/7 cross-platform media enterprise curated for the endless reflections of black identity. We disrupt space with a broad, deep, and real portrayal of the black experience. With visionary artists, writers, thinkers and creatives contributing to all aspects of Andscape, our audience will be captivated and inspired by how we connect with them and how they connect with us.
The Andscape brand reflects the platform’s vision to provide its audience with broader coverage of news, music, food, fashion, technology, personal finance, parenting and travel , in addition to continuing The Undefeated’s foundation in sports. Andscape is focused on inspiring and including all black audiences, with a particular focus on younger Gen Z and Millennial consumers. Andscape is for anyone inspired by the black point of view, with content that crosses racial, ethnic and experiential boundaries to welcome audiences and consumers who find inspiration at the intersections of black culture.
James Pitaro, President, ESPN and Sports Content, added, “With The Undefeated, we have begun a dialogue that will continue and expand through Andscape to include more topics, more perspectives, and more ways to engage. This is an evolution in response to our audience’s appetite for smart, engaging, and authentic cross-platform content about the Black experience.
The Andscape platform will regularly feature new content on its website and YouTube channel, and will also be a content creator in the form of signature movies, digital content and books for other platforms. On March 7, Andscape’s first short film, Starkeishadirected by Mo McRae and inspired by music for movement EPs, will stream as an Andscape Original Movie on Hulu. The visual album is the journey of a young black woman immersed in a fantasy world of Blackness.

Walker, ESPN’s head of sports business development and innovation. “There’s an incredible team leading the development of this broad and inclusive media portfolio dedicated to black audiences, and we’re confident their work will spark conversations and feelings among our consumers, communities and beyond.”
The Andscape YouTube channel will host a new weekly show, Connected, hosted by Domonique Foxworth. Launching March 4, the former NFL star will examine the rich history behind “Black Twitter” and the contribution of black creativity across the social media landscape. The channel will also feature entertainment journalist Kelley Carter another act, a weekly program dedicated to Black Hollywood. Additionally, Andscape.com will include new content daily about Pulitzer Prize finalist Soraya Nadia McDonald’s black gaze on the world, which will delve into everything from the history of the name change among Black Americans to coaching South Carolina Women’s Basketball Dawn Staley’s decision to give more than 70 black female coaches a piece of her championship net, the evolution of NBA tattoos and more.
Andscape will assume the platform, social handles and other digital channels of The Undefeated, which launched in May 2016 as a content initiative to explore the intersection of sport, race and culture. Andscape will continue and expand The Undefeated’s legacy of creating innovative long and short form narratives, investigations, original reporting and provocative commentary to enlighten and entertain audiences inspired by the dark lens on the world while seeking a more holistic representation of Black life – the new, the cool, the real, the important and the fun.
