He hired all the employees and had a knack for getting all the nicest ones. The owner of an agency in Miami finally heard about Mel’s “eye” for finding beautiful people. The agency owner traveled to Tampa where they met and she hired him to scout and source new faces for her agency. The name of the agency was Irene Marie; they were huge in Miami Beach. Mel found and worked with some of the biggest names in the industry at the time. In the mid-90s, he moved from Miami to Chicago to work with a model scouting company called ProScout. He eventually became the vice president of the company until around 2015 when he retired. During his years as an agent and scout, he touched the lives of hundreds and thousands of talents and their families. He mentored them, watched them, befriended them and always made sure everyone was well informed and equally well taken care of. The fashion industry can sometimes be difficult to navigate, but if you were lucky enough to have Mel McFarlane to look after you, you were indeed a lucky person.
